dog at Stouffville's Mutt Masquerade 2017 dogtrotting.net

Then I do what I’ve done before looking for a place in a strange city to let my crazy terrier Victor run free after a long drive: I pull up beside someone walking a dog. Actually, the only person I can find walking a dog. I guess everyone is at the dog park.

I found the Stouffville leash-free park at the end of a dead-end street behind the Walmart plaza, just where he said it would be – only today the road to the dog park is lined with cars. Many cars.

Fuchsia, scrolls of white, and gold accent is the colour palette of Dog Tales’ promotional cards, dog kennels and today, the festival. The beautiful grounds of this dog rescue and horse sanctuary are landscaped reminiscent of English Earls – except manicure rose gardens are replaced with fenced dog runs (with ponds) for about eighty happy hounds looking for forever homes.

Dogs at Pawlooza 2017 dogtrotting.net

That’s right. On the third Saturday in August from 9:30 am to 5:00 pm every year, tens of thousands of people, thousands of dogs, and hundreds of cars descend on the Plunkett Estates for the incredibly popular annual Pawlooza dog festival celebrating all things pets with activities all day including dock diving competitions in the lake-sized pond.

Frenchie at dog show

What dog travel awaits us this weekend? Turns out, we didn’t need to stray far from home. For a small town, Caledonia, Ontario, Canada was dog event central: K9 hosted a fundraiser August 12, 2017 for Zachary’s Paws for Healing, a unique non-profit that helps people in hospital, particularly those in long-term care, visit with […]

Zeus Mandalay Bay Canine Team

Few people visit Las Vegas to meet dogs, but that was a highlight of my trip to The Strip this year. Attending SuperZoo 2017, an annual pet-industry trade show featuring more products than you can dream of (check out round up one), was the main reason I flew to this land of lights and casinos. […]

Shed Defender, long johns for dogs, SuperZoo Product dogtrotting.net

It’s the most wonderful time of the year…. No, not Christmas but close. SuperZoo! It’s SuperZoo time, a huge annual pet industry trade show in Las Vegas, where I went (sadly without my dog Victor) to be overwhelmed by both distractions in Sin City and the multitude of pet products, ideas, innovations and people who […]

Dog treat review www.dogtrotting.net (pork puffs)

Victor, my 12-year-old terrier cross, is a picky eater. Most dogs gobble up treats when offered, especially in the pet stores, but not Victor. He’s too distracted, and few treats interest him even at home. Travelling gets problematic because he’s even harder to feed. So, who better to taste test some of the treats we […]

Dog on big Muskoka chair at Huntington Beach South Carolina

“This is the best layover ever,” says the Spirit Airlines flight attendant petting my dog at The Sheraton Hotel in Myrtle Beach during BlogPaws, [formally] an annual pet bloggers conference. The hotel is crawling with furry friends; the Spirit employees staying here don’t seem to mind. One tells me he used to be a dog […]

Muddy Paws dog and wine festival

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made an appearance at Muddy Paws winery festival for dogs. Ok, no he didn’t. But his dog cookie likeness did, June 8 and 9, 2017. Trudeau’s image in the shape of an all-natural wheat-free treat is the latest from Spoil the Dog Bakery based in St. Jacobs, Ontario. It looks […]

Dog at Caledonia Canada Day 150 Festival

If you haven’t heard it’s Canada’s 150th Anniversary, you haven’t been anywhere near Canada this year.  It’s everywhere. You can’t avoid it. One hundred and fifty years ago the Confederation document was signed declaring Canada’s nationhood. So July 1, 2017 – Canada Day is a big deal. I had big plans to take my terrier […]
