Great dog-travel opportunity … Today only! “If I can’t take my dog, I’m not going,” someone said to me recently, and I thought, “Me, too,” which is the reason my dog Victor and I recently went on a dog-friendly Michigan Cider Mill tour. (More about that soon). Clearly, we were talking about travelling, but the […]

Dog on Huntsville Ghost Walk

Victor, my terrier cross, is frantically turning circles while digging the grass. We’re standing in front of the Howard Weeden House built in 1819, allegedly the most haunted building in Huntsville, Alabama. Victor’s intense and determined, pawing on the ground like there’s mice beneath the soil surface.

Now Pavlo Pottery is selling limited-edition pottery mugs for $30 each … and Saturday, October 10, 2017, I gleefully selected from the first round of NSD mugs fresh out of the kiln – mine’s number 11.

dog at Parliament Buildings in Ottawa, Ontario

Canal locks and dogs, who knew? Victor, my adventurous terrier, is running along the cement walkway above Ottawa’s historic Rideau Canal as if he has somewhere to be. Victor’s looking particularly dapper in his handmade cowboy-themed collar and bowtie. Keeping him cute gets us off-leash forgiveness and today even positive attention can’t deter his focus. […]

Dog with Messy Mutts travel water bottle at Word on the Street

Trying to get Victor to drink while we travel, heading out for day trips, festivals and even dog parks in the summer is a challenge. He’ll drink a bit from a bowl, if I fill it to the top. But he only drinks a bit. Then I dump water over the pavement because we have to move on.

Bronte Creek Provincial Park Campgrounds Meet Sasha. She’s the reason I need a Solvit waterproof car seat cover. Otherwise, the bucket seat in my Kia Soul would be destroyed. Sasha is a lab/Belgian Malinois cross rescued from the SPCA four years ago. She’s also my terrier Victor’s best buddy – they met when Sasha was […]

dog wearing EzyDog chest harness

I rarely if ever anchor Victor in the car. That’s right: no crate, harness or seat belt. He’s remarkably good on road trips, preferring the back seat and rarely moving around. Windows don’t tempt him. But rural Elysburg is about a six-hour drive from my home and we’re powering down there

Welcome Daisy, our newest member of the dogtrotting.net family! It’s official, we are a two-cat home. After losing my beloved Kaitlynn 18 months ago, the feline absence was too great. Besides, I didn’t want Victor to get used to not having a kitty buddy around. (Note: This post was sponsored by […]

What’s better than a living history museum? A Dog-friendly living history museum. Want one better? Add a dog festival to a dog-friendly living history museum and I’m driving to London. London, Ontario, Canada, that is. Fanshawe Pioneer Village in London, Ontario is one of those charming historic villages of organized historic buildings – some original […]

dog by poind at Stouffville's Mutt Masquerade 2017 dogtrotting.net

“He’s very tired,” Terri Beauchamp, CRA, says to me about my dog Victor. I’m not surprised – he’s on pain killers for a neck injury after playing with a much bigger, and younger, lab friend. But I’m still concerned. “He’s almost too tired to talk,” she says, “but he really wants to be with you. […]
