Celebrate Canada Day: Win a Box of Canadian Dog Products!

poster with black and white dog promoting dog box contest - dog box contains toys and treats

Enter to win a gift box of Canadian made pet products for dogs! That’s right. It’s been a while since we ran a contest on dogtrotting.net and the last one for Soda Pup was open to U.S. readers and fans only.

However, this time it’s different. This time the contest is open to Canadian residents only – so Happy Canada on July 1!

Every year, we at dogtrotting.net check out what’s new at Pets Canada (formally PIJAC), a pet industry trade show in Toronto, Ontario. It’s a smaller SuperZoo of Canada. Sidenote: We’ll be heading to SuperZoo 2024 too! (We also checked out the first annual Connect: Canada’s Pet Trade Expo this year too, so watch for more about Connect on dogtrotting.net soon).

For now, it’s about Canadian dog supply companies, including Canadian made dog food brands, because knowing the source of our pet’s food is important – and even better to support home team players.

At Pets Canada, we met both Canadian pet brands and companies distributing throughout the Great White North. Some of our favourites (and those willing to provide prizes) are in our Happy Canada Day Dog Toys and Treats Box that you can win. Approximate retail value: $100.

How long is the contest running?

June 26 to July 31, 2024

What’s in the prize box?

1. Canadian-themed pawty animal dog toys

First, the inspiration for the contest are the fun Canadian-themed dog toy stuffies from pawty animal, owned by Kara Wardinger. These eco-friendly plush dog toys come in recognizable Canuck themes like a red Tim Pawtons coffee, a Toronto Woof Jays baseball, and a Pawson Canadian beer bottle. (Two beers and one ball are in the box).

All pawty animal toys are made from recycled materials, and the Ontario-based company uses plant-based packaging, not plastic. Your first website order from their site is 20% off.

2. earth rated fly toy

Second is earth rated – a familiar dog product brand to many but not all know this eco-based company is proudly Canadian, founded in Montreal. In our prize box is eight rolls of earth rated (affiliate link) lavender scented poop bags and a Fly Toy (affiliate link). Tested for toughness, the fly toy is easy to toss, pick up, and carry. Yellow is also an easy colour for dogs to spot.

The fly toy size in the prize box is for smaller dogs between 15 and 35 pounds, or 7 to 16 kilograms, as we say in Canada. The earth rated fly toy is BPA free and floats. (Note that this is not a chew toy).

3. Tilted Barn Alberta beef

Third are beef dog treats (no garlic) from Tilted Barn Pet Co. based in Alberta. These are one of my dog’s favourites (my previous dog too) and appeared in our ‘Victoria’s favourite dog things contest’ previously. Made in Canada from Alberta beef these are the real deal and need to be refrigerated after opening.

4. FR freeze-dried duck liver

Finally, a bag of freeze-dried natural dog treats from FR- Formula Raw – based in Quebec. Made from free-range Canadian ducks (no, not geese), this hypoallergenic protein from duck liver (foie de canard, in French) is easier for dogs to digest.

Please note the prizes will arrive in a box from doggie box, a Canadian subscription box. We are not associated with doggie box or doggie fest – the box is simply reusing/recycling the box after we attended the doggie box launch party here.

Tell us about your dog in the comments. We’ll randomly select one winner via a traditional ‘draw from a hat’ method. The winner will be contacted via email (so please include an email you use frequently) and will be asked for a mailing address within Canada. If we don’t get a response within two weeks, we’ll draw again! Open until July 31, 2024, to Canadian residents only.

Finally, if you didn’t know already, Chewy is expanding to Canada. Right now, they are shipping to Ontario only, so if you’re in Southern Ontario, check them out here (earth rated is available on Chewy Canada):

Whiskey was rescued from a barn fire at 8 weeks old, he and one other out of 6 dogs escaped because he was the runt. He was so easy to train very food motivated. He is my bff and is always with me. He is smart, funny, loves everyone. He is no longer a runt turns out he is mastiff, black tonged cur mix and is now about 110 pounds. Wont trade him for anything.

First thanks for the awesome giveaway! My wife and I are Great Pyrenees lovers. During the pandemic we added Leo to our family. He’s a Pyr/Bernese mix. He’s a wonderful protector of creatures great and small. Our old timer and Leo’s big brother, Ozzie, also a Pyr, crossed the rainbow bridge July 2023 and the wounds are still fresh. My eyes well up when I focus my thoughts on my big boy to this day. With the loss of Oz we swore to never get another dog. That promise didn’t last.

Leo was very lonely so we did what any insane dog lovers would do, started looking at rescues. We found a new family member in Dove or Dovey as I call her. Dovey is, you guessed it, a smaller Great Pyrenees, but a Pyr through and through. It’s been a challenge getting Dove accustomed to her new life as we are certain she came from an abusive situation. She’s the sweetest most loving dog and she is adjusting well considering what she’s been through.

My wife, kids and I are thankful everyday for our dogs. 🙂

      1. Love Great Pyrenees. Beautiful dogs – so good of you to rescue.

    2. Lucky Whiskey … what a sad circumstance, but good to hear Whiskey is thriving. Mastiffs are some the most patient dogs I’ve ever met.

Roxy is a golden-colored mutt of indeterminate ancestry. She is quite intelligent but her stubbornness often dictates how she will respond to commands. She loves walks, hunting squirrels, and raiding the garden!

    1. Roxy sounds awesome. I can relate, and I love golden coloured mutts!

Two of them at our feet, a terrier/poodle cross named Oliver who is 2 1/2 and Milo a Jack Russel/Chihuahua cross who is about 13, no teeth left but a sassy one! They love to hang out at the water and kayak with us.

    1. So sweet. My previous pup was part Jack and all energy.

Luna is a wheaten terrier poodle, she is the loveliest dog ever! Since we’ve gotten her (almost 2 years now) she has never once gone potty inside the house. She is extremely patient and calm. Always curious about what others are doing and sits under you when you’re having a meal incase any food scraps drop on the floor. I love her so much!

    1. Luna sounds awesome … and that sounds like a really cute poodle mix.

My dog Harper is a pandemic puppy. We got her in June 2020, and she’s grown into an 85lb American Bulldog/Cane Corso mix. Enrolled with a great local trainer so our girls could control her. She is very food motivated. She’ll do anything for a treat!

    1. Mine’s a pandemic pup too, only not that big. She sounds beautiful – what a combo.

  8. Lulu is a cutie, she can be a bit annoying with how much love and attention she wants sometimes but she is the kindest little thing.

My dog Millie is my bestie. She keeps me company when I work from home and is so easy going – we love her!

      1. Being cute helps. You can get away with a lot. It works for my dog.

    2. I wish I worked from home more often. My dog is always surprised when I walk out of the house without her. Love Millie!

My dogs – Starsky and Hutch are lovely beagles that enjoy daily walks, snuggles and are so lovable and friendly! Hutch has such a sweet personality and enjoys doing spins!

    1. So cute. I’m wondering if you meet people who don’t know the reference.

Teddy is 4.5 years old. He’s very annoying but he is the love of my wife’s life, so he’s sticking around.

    1. Sounds like Teddy knows who’s in charge. Thanks for entering the contest!

My dog Otto is a 2.5 year old Bernedoodle, very cute and not particularly smart. He’s working on some tricks but absolutely declines to walk nicely.

    1. Same. My dog won’t leash walk nicely either. I’ve tried so many training techniques … but cute gets them out of a lot of trouble.

Molly is a Mini Goldendoodle who loves to destroy her toys. Except her Llamacorn (a Llama/Unicorn hybrid), which she treats as her baby.

    1. So cute she has a favourite toy. Mine destroys all plushies … eventually.

Jake is a rescue so we don’t know what his breeds are 100% but he is full of energy and a really happy dog.

    1. Rescue is the best breed!

    2. My dog’s name is Millie she’s a foxhound mix. She is full of energy and always goofy and fun. She looks like a cartoon character. She is huge but super sweet and gentle (except if you are trying to walk her on a leash she is extremely strong and runs fast lol) She loves cuddling, playing, treats and is always making everyone laugh.

      1. Millie sounds awesome – mine won’t walk on leash either … and is stronger than she looks.

My dog was born in foster care and I adopted her 2 months later. She is my shadow 24/7. She is part of the talking dog movement now and everyday she blows me away with her button use to tell me what is on her mind. She makes me laugh every single day and I am so lucky to be her hooman.

    1. Sounds so smart! Button use is impressive. I’d like to research more about how it works. (I’m not sure my spaniel will focus long enough to get it).

Scamp is an adventure mut-terrier through & through. But after a hard day at the beach or treking through the forest he knows that much effort is worth a treat . . . Because he is a good boy.

    1. My previous dog was part terrier … that attitude and energy has a special place in my heart.

My dog chapter is a ball of energy. He doesn’t understand being laid-back but has a playful side when he gets treats.

    1. I’ve got a double spaniel, so energy is her personality. I love your dog’s name.

  20. Zed is a bit of a dick, but he’s very lovable. He likes to go outside but doesn’t like walks, and loves to chew!

    1. Love Zed!
