Toronto: More Litter More Love at the Spring Canadian Pet Expo 2017

Never mind mousetraps, build the better kitty litter and they will come. Apparently, that’s the prevailing view at public pet shows including the Spring Canadian Pet Expo 2017 on this weekend (April 13, 14 and 15) at the International Centre in Toronto, Canada. ‘Robot’ cat litter boxes, litter made from anything and everything absorbent such […]

Travel Toronto, ON: Spring 2017 Canadian Pet Expo. It’s on!

Some people are heading to church next Easter weekend. Others will be glad Friday is a holiday. I’m thrilled the Spring Canadian Pet Expo is back at the International Centre, near the Toronto airport in Ontario, Canada. The 2017 event promises to be the biggest yet with more than 300 vendors (really, the focus of […]

Maple Syrup Festival Bronte Creek Provincial Park

Park Quest Site #3: Bronte Creek Provincial Park Maple Syrup Festival

We got there. Just in time. I didn’t know it then, but my dog Victor and I made it to the last day of Bronte Creek Provincial Park’s Maple Syrup Festival on March 26, 2017. Every weekend in March – and throughout March Break – this provincial park celebrates one of Canada’s favourite sweet and […]

Westminster Dog Show 2017 Meet and Compete

NYC Westminster Dog Show: AKC Meet and Compete … cats too! (Part III)

Pier 92 a long New York City’s Hudson River isn’t everyone’s first stop during a visit to the Big Apple. However, Saturday of the Westminster Dog Show weekend, that’s where I headed, after checking into the dog-friendly Pennsylvania Hotel (affiliate link) across from Madison Square Gardens – the nerve centre for all things dog show. But before […]

Westminster Best of Show German Shepherd

NYC: Westminster Kennel Club 2017 Best in Show (Part II) goes to…

There’s a whole lot of shaking going on at the Westminster Dog Show 2017 finals at Madison Square Gardens in New York City. It’s day two of a two-day competition and tonight we learn what everyone here wants to know: Who is Best in Show? First, there are three groups to judge: Sporting Group, Working […]

Westminster Dog Show 2017

NYC Westminster Dog Show Part I: Rumor has it, it rocked!

The Hound Group opened the first evening competitions of the 2017 Westminster Dog Show in New York City – a step along the journey to ‘Best in Show’ designation. Last night, these familiar hound breeds were met with more cheers than any other group likely because they’re familiar pets such as beagles, dachshunds, and greyhounds. […]

Victor with Santa Christmas photo www.dogtrotting.net

Photos with Santa … for good causes. Forget cards. Support pet rescues!

Instead of printing and mailing cards this year, I schlepped my terrier-cross Victor to pet rescue Holiday Pictures fundraisers and got his photo taken with Santa.

Was he thrilled? You be the judge. Take a look:

Pawlooza 2016 dogtrotting.net

Travel London, ON: Pawlooza Rocks with Dogs (even in the heat)

My dog Victor is zonked. Too much heat, excitement and energetic dogs panting around him at Pawlooza, one of the biggest and best annual dog festivals in Southern Ontario. The August 20, 2016 event benefited both animal rescue organizations and an employment non-profit. (See last year’s coverage here). Each year in August, the Plunkett family […]

Travel Las Vegas: Top 10 SuperZoo Finds 2016

SuperZoo is the World Pet Association’s mega pet industry trade show held annually in Las Vegas. This year more than 1200 exhibitors participated, and if you doubt the growth, size and even influence of the pet industry in North America, spend two days walking and talking the 8,5000 square feet of trade show floor and, after you collapse, your mind will be changed – and blown.

Dog-friendly Niagara: Muddy Paws Festival Pairs Dogs and Vino. Cheers!

Victor and I do now, after spending at afternoon at Muddy Paws Festival, an annual fundraiser at two Niagara, Ontario wineries that invites participants to stroll the vineyards … with their dogs.
For $20, you get admission to the event, one glass of wine and a gift bag for your puppy. Food is extra and each winery had butter chicken, grilled pulled pork tacos or wraps for purchase.
