Dog Tracks Tuna Melts
Tuna isn’t just for kitties. My dog comes running when the can opener zips around a fishy can. I’ve been baking so many pet treats recently, I was inspired to create my own recipe – from scratch.
From tuna juice, actually – that liquid that goes down the sink (or occasionally in the cat’s dish). Because it’s stinky – and dogs love stinky – these weird concoctions were a big hit.
What You Need
½ cup canned tuna liquid (almost the amount from one can after you’ve made a tuna melt for you)
½ cup water
½ cup oats
1 cup whole wheat flour
½ cup shredded cheddar
½ cup shredded mozzarella
1/8 cup chopped fresh spinach (left over from your side salad)
What You Do
Combine all ingredients, except water, in a large bowl. Add water as need to make the mixture doughy and malleable.
Using a soup spoon, drop unrolled balls of mixture onto a baking sheet covered in parchment paper.
Bake at 350F for about 15 minutes.
Yield: 12 treats
