This is Not a Holiday Gift Guide: 8 One-of-a-Kind dog items on my wish list

“Why do you have horses, cats and dogs all over your house?” my adolescent nephew asked me recently. I didn’t understand the question. Here’s my confession: I’m an animal art addict. I didn’t mean to be, that’s just what I’ve become after decades of roaming art and craft shows big and small. It’s true, especially […]

We hear a lot about innovation, creativity and ingenuity being essential to industry developments, leadership and expansion. Well, if you want to be inspired check out the pet industry. Yes, the pet industry might be giving electronics and automation a run for their money particularly in the department of ‘I never thought of that.’ One visit […]

How to Deal with Pet Loss. Or why we are in the SPCA Walk-a-Thon.

I’ve decided to do all my holiday shopping at pet rescue fundraisers this year. The idea came to me after a long table of raffle and silent auction items greeted me through the door at a Hamilton Greyhound rescue event recently. Silent auction is a particular vice of mine, combining two of my obsessions: shopping and […]

Travel: Door County, Wisconsin (Part 1). Getting Doggie Sea Legs on a Fireboat

Boats aren’t usually my thing (despite spending four days on a houseboat earlier this year). But when I saw Maggie May and Maddy on the Chicago Fireboat Legend Cruise in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, I knew this one was going to be ok. The Chicago Fireboat tour is dog friendly

Today is National Love Your Pet Day – February 20th

One thing I love about Americans is their holidays – or special days to commemorate. Someone, somewhere (or should I say some organization, somewhere) in the States is proclaiming a special day or month of awareness almost constantly, and frankly that’s fun (and good for editorial content). Guess what? Pets make the list too. In […]
