Dog-friendly Event Winery Weekend: Top Dog Tasting & Photo Shoot in Norfolk, Ontario
After a few false starts due to ‘you know what,’ Hounds of Erie Winery in Clear Creek, Ontario, Canada hosted The Top Dog Tasting and Photoshoot dog-friendly event August 14 and 15, 2021. Spread out through an orchard vineyard and cornfield, the socially distanced outdoor event was exactly what housebound hounds and their people needed.

The Paddle Art Tour Haldimand (PATH) is like a tourist scavenger hunt through several small towns dotting a large rural area. But don’t worry – the paddles aren’t hard to find considering the address of each is listed in the guide (here). All are located where visitors and locals are likely to gather: parks, riverside trails, marinas, farmers markets … all locations worth a road-trip stop, anyway. Especially with the dog.

Selkirk Provincial Park in Haldimand County, Ontario is my favourite dog daytrip escape for two reasons: it’s an easy country drive from my home, and there’s a dog-friendly exercise area and beach in this otherwise compact of the provincial parks. Parking near Howlers Corners, the Ken Reid Conservation Area in Lindsey, Ontario, Canada leash-free dog park, is $4, a bargain considering there’s no admission charge. A bit of a rustic dog park – rustic because a chicken-wire style fence (which my dog ran straight into) blends with the foliage and surrounds a partially wooded area. There’s a double gate at the entrance, but the ground is worn down enough that my pup could shimmy underneath, which she did.
