Take Your Dog to Selkirk: Provincial Park Daily Dog Dip … dog-friendly beach and more

A day at the beach, was just what the universe ordered. Selkirk is near Port Dover along Lake Erie in Southern Ontario. Pack water, snacks (we should have), reading material and maybe a beach chair. Then set course for the great outdoors – or at least a pocket of trees, trails and tadpoles (if you can find them).

Chasing Waterfalls at Chutes Provincial Park (with the dog)

Sometimes you have to go chasing waterfalls… especially if it’s easy. At Chutes Provincial Park in Ontario, Canada, it’s easy – and dog-friendly.

Located one kilometre off Highway #17 in Massey, Ontario, it’s the best provincial park between Sudbury and Sault Ste Marie, and the best stop if you’re travelling to either city from Toronto.

Dog Skijoring – Seeing is Believing at Arrowhead Provincial Park

Just when you’re looking forward to spring … I bring you snow-covered images. But not any images – pics of dog skijoring. That’s right, dog skijoring. You cross-country ski with your dog tethered to you. I thought it was crazy until I saw it with my own eyes: a group of excited dogs actively trying […]

Travel: Skijoring with the dog? Yes! At Arrowhead Provincial Park, Ontario

Who knew winter would be so popular in Ontario’s cottage country? The people at Arrowhead Provincial Park near Huntsville, Ontario did. In fact, opened in 2018 is the new Visitor’s Centre, with floor-to-ceiling fireplace and inside the ‘warm up’ area, designed to efficiently rent skates, cross-country skis (skate or classic style) and snowshoes to thousands […]

Dog-friendly Southern Ontario: Westfield Heritage Village … bring the dog (and a snack)

We’re at Westfield Heritage Village in Rockton, Ontario (about an hour west of Toronto) engaging with some living history… and getting our run on.
The quaint heritage village, open from April to October each year, allows leashed dogs to roam about and admittedly Victor skirts this rule a few times. But we practically have the place to ourselves.

Travel Asheville, NC: Books, Wine and Dogs… what could go wrong? (Day 3)

Wine, books and pets … these are a few of my favourite things. Basically, they are my favourite things and all three come together at Battery Park Book Exchange & Champagne Bar in Asheville, North Carolina. Books and champagne, in glasses with dog silhouettes on them. And dogs (on leashes, of course) wandering through four […]

Letting Loose: Dog Days of Summer (almost) at Woodhaven Country Lodge

Weekend with the dogs. Best idea ever. Only thing is, I don’t have a cottage. So, I’m renting at Woodhaven Country Lodge in Ontario, Canada. (UPDATE: Unfortunately, as of Fall 2021, Woodhaven is no longer open) The minute I arrive, owner Michael walks me through the door and says, “Don’t worry about them jumping on […]

Travel San Diego: Check out the dogs at the zoo. That’s right. Dogs.

However, you can still see dogs at the zoo. Currently, two live there – with cheetahs. Yes, cheetahs.

dog along river near dog-friendly Fort Wellington, Prescott, Ontario

Park Quest #7: Dog Friendly Fort Wellington National Historic Site Prescott, Ontario

That’s why Victor loved Fort Wellington National Historic Site in Prescott, Ontario, Canada.
I’m not saying Fort Wellington stinks, just the opposite: it’s an ideal stretch and learn stop along the Toronto to Ottawa journey, about 10 minutes from the TransCanada highway.

Get Out with the Dog: K9 Sport Sack, The Canadian Pet Expo & Problem Solving Success

Necessity is the mother of innovation … or something like that. In other words, so many entrepreneurial endeavours are born out of a need to solve a personal problem.

And K9 Sport Sack – the backpack for your dog – is no exception.
