Day 6 We get lucky in North Carolina on The Red Roof Road Trip: Welcome to The Lucky Dog Bark and Brew
The Lucky Dog Bark and Brew is where everyone knows your dog’s name – that’s how they sell it in Cornelius, North Carolina. The idea is as appealing as it sounds. The Lucky Dog at 19607 Statesville Road, isn’t a bar you can take your dog. It’s an indoor and outdoor dog park where your […]
In front of me, there’s a glass of Biltmore Estates Merlot and a plate of Buffalo Spiced Calamari while I sit at this outdoor patio listening to a live jazz band nearby with my dog Victor by my side. Ok, he’s under the chair. The point is I’m eating with Victor at Cedric’s Tavern, at […]
The idea behind Art Crawl was to bring more people to a struggling downtown in a somewhat struggling city. It was an amazing success. Now, the monthly Art Crawl and its big sister the annual SuperCrawl are major city attractions – without losing their grassroots charm.
I’ve been reading advice from other pet parents about how to deal with such loss – one not always understood by those outside the ‘pet enthusiast’ community. Most pet parents have dealt with this issue at some time, so (unfortunately) I’m in good company.
I’m no grief expert, but here are some ways I’m attempting to deal with pet loss. Maybe some might work for you too.
SuperZoo is the World Pet Association’s mega pet industry trade show held annually in Las Vegas. This year more than 1200 exhibitors participated, and if you doubt the growth, size and even influence of the pet industry in North America, spend two days walking and talking the 8,5000 square feet of trade show floor and, after you collapse, your mind will be changed – and blown.
Bring your dog to the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky. Dogs and horses. Awesome. Add a cat show to the mix and I’ve gone to heaven. Ok, no cats at the Kentucky Horse Park but plenty of horses – 90 live on the property. Some are former famous racehorses, others pull the trolley carts […]
Holy Toledo. Sorry Ohio, this is not my favourite city. Day one of our nine-day five State Red Roof road trip with my dog Victor and I’ve booked our first stop at Red Roof Inn Toledo – mid-way between home and Lexington, Kentucky. The hotel is nice enough and staff friendly. It’s minutes from the […]
Almost on a whim, I planned my next adventure: The Red Roof 9 Day 5 State Road Trip with the Dog. Victor and I will hop in the car and drive from one dog-friendly site to another in the U.S., covering an arc of 2,000 km of highway from Ohio to Pennsylvania via Kentucky, North […]
What astrological signs flank either side of the seated figure’s head above the original entrance to the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) in Toronto, Ontario? Cancer and Leo. What’s unusual in the stain glass window of the nearby church? A Star of David. You can thank me later. I’ve just given you two answers to the […]
Not often does a dog board a restored 1915 train car to journey a short distance for ice cream. It’s a dog life. A travelling dog. My 11-year-old schnoodle is becoming a train dog, whether he likes it or not. Actually, he’s very calm and comfortable sitting on my lap during short novelty train rides […]
