Dog-friendly Southern Ontario: Westfield Heritage Village … bring the dog (and a snack)

We’re at Westfield Heritage Village in Rockton, Ontario (about an hour west of Toronto) engaging with some living history… and getting our run on.
The quaint heritage village, open from April to October each year, allows leashed dogs to roam about and admittedly Victor skirts this rule a few times. But we practically have the place to ourselves.

Dog-friendly Rochester: Dog-Friendly Michigan Cider Mills Here We Come

The best thing about Michigan’s Cider Mills is most are dog-friendly. Ok, and the apple cider. That’s usually good to. September and October as the leaves change, one hundred, yes one hundred, Cider Mills in the state open their barn doors to the public to sample cider, buy it by the quart and more.

Take Your Dog to Toronto: Down Dog Zen at Veg Food Fest 2018 (or Loving Dog Yoga)

Down dog is how my terrier Victor spent most of his Zen Dogs Wellness yoga practice … and I was thrilled. Meditative stillness came easy to him – but that might be the point. Zen Dogs Wellness is a unique Doga, according to yogi Alexandria Santaguida. It’s a ‘dog and me healing and yoga class’ […]

Travel, Niagara: Grape Labour Day Weekend Winery Escape (with the dog)

Sitting at a picnic table, wine in hand, three gourmet tacos waiting to be eaten – it’s a relaxing Labour Day weekend outing with my dog Victor punctuated by the sound of gun fire. Ok, not real gun fire but it seems like it – loud, random and constant booms echo across the wavy expanse […]

Travel Peterborough, ON: Mutt Day Among African Sculpture at ZimArt Rice Lake

How did I spend National Mutt Day, July 31, 2018? Strolling through ZimArt Rice Lake Gallery outdoor sculpture park near Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. And I wasn’t even with my dog, Victor, a cocker-spaniel, Parson’s terrier, poodle, schnauzer mix. Now that’s a mutt. But I could have been. Had I had Victor with me on my […]

National Sheep Dog Trials, Kingston, Ontario

Travel Kingston, ON: Kingston Sheep Dog Trials Festival. Yes, Sheep Herding.

With my dog Victor at my side, I got my first exposure to the sport of sheep dog herding at the Kingston, Sheep Dog Trials Festival August 10 to 12, 2018.
As some point, the dog must maneuver its crew through two gates and back eventually herding the sheep, with the help of the handler, into a gated pen.

Campground for Dogs travelling with People: 4 Paws Kingdom Rocks (Day 5: Best Dog Campground)

4 Paws Kingdom is like the Disneyland for dogs; and every loved high-energy mutt needs to get there at least once in their lives. Or become regulars, as some RV-lifestyle loving people are. Some living nearby even park their rigs all season and make this a weekend escape.

Travel Asheville, NC: Check out the most dog friendly city we’ve found yet (Day 4).

“You’d love Asheville, North Carolina,” several people told me. “It’s really dog friendly,” internet reviews said. How true both statements turned out to be: we loved dog-friendly Asheville, North Carolina. On a dog-focused road trip south from Canada to North Carolina, somewhere in West Virginia I realized I missed calculated our journey – I was […]

Travel Asheville, NC: Books, Wine and Dogs… what could go wrong? (Day 3)

Wine, books and pets … these are a few of my favourite things. Basically, they are my favourite things and all three come together at Battery Park Book Exchange & Champagne Bar in Asheville, North Carolina. Books and champagne, in glasses with dog silhouettes on them. And dogs (on leashes, of course) wandering through four […]

Dog at West Virginia Botanic Gardens

Travel: West Virginia – Winding Down at the Dog-friendly Gardens (Day 2)

West Virginia … ‘wild and wonderful,’ it says on the license plates. It should read ‘wild and weaving down the interstate,’ because there’s some crazy driving in this state. Turn down a winding country road and the drivers’ feet remain lead; if you’re not taking turns on two wheels, you’re holding up traffic. Day two […]
