Apple Paws Dog Treats
These are currently one of my favourite dog treat recipes I’ve made yet, primarily because the paw-shape came out looking kind of cute.
Are they my dog’s favourite? Not really. But he is a little picky. We ended up sharing them with some pooch pals.
What you’ll need:
2 cups whole wheat flour (plus ¼ cup for rolling dough)
¼ cup corn meal
1 egg
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
½ teaspoon of cinnamon
1/4 cup apple sauce
½ cup water
(dog kibble for decoration if so desired)
What to do:
Mix all dry ingredients in a large bowl then add wet ingredients and blend well.
Form a large ball. I found this combination very sticky and required more flour to coat both the ball of dough and rolling surface otherwise it was too wet.
Use a rolling pin, or your hands as I did, to roll the dough into ¼ inch thickness. I left this dough a little thicker than usual so the ‘cookie’ would be softer.
I cut paw shapes with a cookie cutter so… this invited some adornment otherwise, they’d look like lopsided flowers (and what would the dogs think?).
I pushed four Nutrience kibble bits (affiliate link) into the unbaked dough to represent paw pads and they survived the oven easily.
Bake at 350F for 20 to 30 minutes.
The cinnamon scent will fill the kitchen with that fresh baked anticipation, disappointing everyone but the dog. I got a dozen ‘paws’ from this recipe.
