Pets in our homes is a given. But pet homes filled with stylish furniture that work for Fluffy and Fido and the people who feed them is next level. Pet-friendly home decor is about companion animal accessories (and necessities) that blend seamlessly into the home’s aesthetic.

Hey, some home builders are even including dog washing tubs and feeding stations (even with a water bowl side tap) into the bones of the house. But no need to build from the ground up – there are easier entry points to incorporating pet accessories into the vibe of our home décor.
Customized Dog Bed Upholstery
The first step to the pet home is easy: select dog beds that match your couch. Neutral colours are a good start – though I’ll admit I’m also attracted to fruit and cartoon-shaped cat beds. If that works for you, great. But at my home that can look like a child’s playroom fast.
Dog beds made from microfibre, tweed, or standard upholstery fabric have been around for a while, and now their being manufactured with longevity in mind – like a small couch- but with the added benefit of Fido-friendly fabrics. Snoozer, for example, who I met at SuperZoo recently manufactures quality dog beds for home and travel from durable fabrics designed to withstand use and stains.

Fabric travel beds, called ‘Lookouts’ that prop a dog up so they are level with the car window, are the company’s most sought-after product. But Snoozer dog beds for the home are also attractive options. Designed with bolsters and tufting, they look like mini sofas (and could easily live on the sofa). Plus, you can customize the colours and fabrics from a range of neutral tones and subtle patterns to coordinate with your own furniture.
Pet-friendly Home Decor Furniture
Incorporating pet accessories into the vibe of our home décor is one thing, but selecting furniture designed for both people and animals is next level. If our furry companions are family, then the family home should work well for all. And look good.
I’m loving this option. And I’m looking forward to redesigning my own living space to incorporate some furniture that looks like people furniture, but in fact is a cat climber, feeding station, or dog bed. Picture a bookshelf, let’s call it elevated IKEA, with semi-circle openings on each level. Cats can move from self to self embracing their natural instinct to exist in a vertical domain.
You can find this unit from 4 Cats and Dogs, a Canadian company we met recently at Connect Pet Trade Expo in Niagara Falls, Canada. The bookshelf/cat climber comes in three hues of engineered wood and looks significantly better in the study than a carpet-covered cat climber.
Multipurpose (Hidden) Design
Products from 4 Cats and Dogs are full of subtle surprises. For instance, take the round ottoman in a neutral grey tone. Yes, you can put your feet up during the day, but take the top off and inside is a padded dog bed. Need both? The top of the ottoman has legs that fold down. Now your dog can curl up and you can relax. Yet, you can compact the two when space demands.

Other creative products include padded side tables or stools with an opening underneath – it’s a good sleeping or hiding spot for a smaller dog or cat. Coffee tables with hidden pet-friendly compartments (some big enough for a litter box), and pet-themed welcome mats – with interchangeable centres – so visitors know what they’re getting into when they arrive on your front step.
The company, 4 Cats and Dogs, based in British Columbia, Canada, is new but is beginning to ship products to pet stores across Canada. Furniture stores, however, have been slower in the uptick. Why? I haven’t a clue. Pet people furniture seems like an opportunity for mainstream furniture retailers.
Stylish Feeding Stations … and more
Pet products that look good in the home have been a trend for a while, but now it isn’t just about dog beds in neutral fabrics. Think multifunctional pieces that both hold our coffee cup and cover the litter box or tuck away when not needed. True, there are several companies creating pieces like this, but it’s New Age Pet I met at SuperZoo 2024 who showed me their products.
Tight on space? New Age Pet has a dog Murphy bed that can be easily folded up and down as needed. Folded up, it looks like a cabinet. Folded down, it’s a bed for a large dog. Also, a feeding station stores large bags of dog food easily, and a floor-level draw pulls out for dishes.

Materials are what makes New Age Pet furniture unique. Products are made from ECOFLEX a proprietary easy-to-wipe-clean material designed to outlast wood or plastic because it’s a combination of both. ECOFLEX doesn’t expand and contract due to humidity. Therefore, there’s a ten-year warranty on New Age Pet products (including the popular reptile enclosures). New Age Pet products are available in Canada from Rona online.
Décor Friendly Feeding Bowls

Finally, this is easy: décor friendly pet dishes. Admittedly, I’m attracted to brightly coloured paw-printed dog dishes when I’m out strolling the pet store shelves. But do they match the kitchen? Maybe for some people, but my white and grey neutral colour pallet could use some equally neutral but natural material dog bowls. Even better if someone asks if this is a dog dish.
As much as I love Bella Bowls, I was equally attracted to Loving Pets’ Dolce bamboo pet dishes – launched as a new product at SuperZoo 2024. The bamboo bowls come in three sizes and three colours: slate (grey), oat (beige), and coffee (brown). It’s the company’s latest BPA-free product. The smooth minimalist design looks at home in a Japanese kitchen store.
