Recipe: Peanut Butter ‘Beef Men’ Holiday Dog Treats … for pot lucks

dog treat recipe

I know not everyone takes their dog to a pot luck – trust me, I would if I could. But sometimes there’s a host dog (if you’re lucky). And sometimes participants have dogs at home (if not, why are you there?)

So my favourite holiday thing to do is  bag up dog treats and show up to a pot luck with a basket of them.

My second favourite holiday thing to do is make homemade dog treats – either my own recipes or modifying others.

Here’s my latest creation: Peanut Butter ‘Beef Men’ Holiday Dog Treats

These are only ‘men’ because I used a gingerbread man cookie cutter. If you use another shape – change the name. Make ’em your own.

What You’ll Need:ingredients

2 cups of flour

1/2 cup of fine ground steel cut oats (affiliate link)

1 egg

1 small jar of beef broth baby food

1/4 cup of peanut butter (xylitol free)

1/3 cup of water

cookiesonsheet

a handful of Honey Nut Cheerios (optional)

What You’ll Do:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.

Beat egg in a bowl. Add flour and oats.

Mix then add beef broth baby food, peanut butter and water if the mixture is too dry.

Knead with your hands into a ball then roll out on a lightly floured surface.

Cut with cookie cutters any shape you want. I used a gingerbread men shape and added Honey Nut Cheerios (left over from another recipe) for buttons, pushing them into the dough.

Bake for 20 minutes then cool. Add to decorative bags for ‘take home’ ease. I used festive zip lock ones (affiliate link) – just label them clearly to there’s no confusion who they’re for! Woof woof.

  1. […] love the idea of making homemade dog treats (check out an easy dog treat recipe here), and I particularly love it when it’s easy. I tested this Conairpropet version of a dog biscuit […]
