Recipe: Peanut Butter Dog Bone Brunch Bites

My dog’s best buddy is visiting, so doggie brunch is on the menu. We’ve already done waffles (yes, for dogs … check it out), so high tea canape-style dog bones it is.

dog bone brunch bites dogtrotting.netPeanut Butter Dog Bone Brunch Bites were easy to make and cut into bone shapes … but for the special day, I took it one step further and stack them like sandwiches with a smear of peanut butter in the middle (cool!) and added an egg wash, which frankly, wasn’t that impressive.

Peanut Butter Dog Bone Brunch Bites

¾ cup milk

2 eggs

1 cup peanut butter

2 ½ cup whole wheat flour

1 tablespoon baking soda

Preheat oven to 325 F.

Whisk the milk, one egg and peanut butter together and add the baking soda. That part’s easy.

Then roll the dough into a big ball. Flour a surface, roll out the dough and cut it with a bone-shaped cookie cutter. I made these thicker than usual (more than ¼ inch) and baked them a little softer.

Wisk one egg with some water. Using a pastry brush, ‘wash’ egg over each biscuit.

Bake for 10-15 minutes.

After cooling, sandwich two bones together with peanut butter and serve immediately … preferably outside, on the back deck with your best buddy after a run in the park.

(To make them extra pretty, mix some corn starch with enough water to make it drizzle-able and food colouring. Then using a spoon, drizzle over bone-shaped treats).

  3. That sounds yummy and really easy. Tippy loves peanut butter, so I may have to try this one.

    1. My dog loves peanut butter – it’s how I give him pills.

      1. Same with Tippy. It’s also an almost daily treat for her.
