Solutions for Aging Dog Mobility Issues Part #6: Turmeric Terrific Dog Treat Recipe

turmeric dog treats dogtrotting.netTurmeric contains curcumin, which has strong anti-inflammatory properties and an anti-oxidant. It can help with pain, arthritis, and joint stiffness. However, the curcumin content in turmeric is not that high and people have to take higher concentration curcumin supplements to see any affect. Also, apparently, black pepper helps people absorb curcumin.

However, coconut oil is the hero for dogs. Coconut oil helps Fido absorb curcumin. And clearly, dogs are smaller than people and need smaller dosages, approximately one eight a teaspoon per ten pounds of dog’s weight. This recipe contains approximately 1/12 a tablespoon per treat.

I sometimes put a dash a turmeric in my dog food along with a teaspoon of cod liver oil. I believe it helps with her overall health, even though she is fairly young-6 yrs old. never to early to start. this gives her a nice shiny coat that is very noticeable
