Recipe: Spring Time (post-Easter) Doggie Donuts

Spring Time post-Easter Doggie Donuts

doggie donuts 1Finally, I broke in my new donut baking mold. Now that I’m fulling obsessed with baking dog treat everything, I can’t stop buying baking supplies and cookie cutters. (Watch for the shoe-shaped dog biscuits coming up soon).

But first, here’s some dog donuts I modified a dog cake recipe from allrecipes.com to create festive spring treats … complete with icing. I gave that a shot too.

Ingredients (for donuts):

1 egg

1/2 cup peanut butterdog donuts 3

1/4 cup vegetable oil

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/8 cup honey

1 cup shredded carrots

1 cup whole wheat flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

Ingredients (for icing):

2 tbsp cornstarch

2 tbsp warm water

1 tsp honey

1 tsp of turmeric (if you want it coloured yellow)

This icing will be thick and look more like frosting. But it’s thick enough to drizzle from a spoon.

dog donuts 2Directions:

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

In a medium bowl, combine the egg, peanut butter, oil, vanilla, and honey.

Stir in the carrots, then gradually add the flour and baking soda until well combined. Dough will be thick and a bit sticky.

Spray donut pan with oil Push dough into donut shaped pan leaving room for the dough to rise up.

Bake in the oven for 15-20 minutes. Turn onto a wire rack and let cool completely.

Then drizzle dog ‘icing’ over the cooled donuts as neatly as possible. Sprinkle some leftover grated carrots on top for decoration. Dogs love decoration.

  1. […] Dog Donuts … fun when finished, AND fun to make, these donuts for the dogs were popular with the pups and looked cute too. Having a donut mould helped a lot and the peanut butter flavour is my dog’s favourite. Shredded carrots and corn starch with turmeric were the icing on top. Check out our dog donuts here. […]
