Pup Treats Day 5: Dog Bone-shaped Banana ‘n Oat Babysittin’ Biscuits

I’m a fortunate ‘pet mom.’ Not only because I share my life with one feisty cocker-cross named Victor and two beautiful felines Sally and Daisy, but because I have a flexible job that doesn’t keep me away from home for hours and hours at a time. Usually….

Fortunately, he’s got a friend who’s willing to play with him at her home some days. (Her fur dad says its ok too),

So, my little pooch likes to arrive with a hostess gift when he’s a house guest. What dog doesn’t like peanut butter …. with a hint of banana?

Let’s call this oat-based recipe Victor’s Bone-shaped Banana Babysittin’ Biscuits. (Thanks to www.missmollysays.com for the basis idea):

1 egg

1/3 cup smooth light peanut butter (for reduced calories)

1 cup flour (whole wheat or white. I used half and half because I was low on flour)

1/2 cup oats flakesDOGtrotting_logo (small)

1 mashed ripe banana

Preheat oven to 300 degrees.

Combine all dry ingredients in one bowl. Combine peanut butter, egg and banana in another bowl. Mix both into a large bowl and knead until a dough ball forms. It will be very sticky.

You will need a lot of floor on the rolling surface and rolling pin because this dough is extra sticky. Roll out the dough in less than ½ inch thickness and cut into bone shapes with cookie cutters.

Place on a  parchment paper-lined baking sheet and bake for about 15-20 minutes.

I leave them a bit soft rather than crunchy because Victor prefers it. He’s buddy, however, isn’t picky.
