I love the idea of these dog treats – pup pretzels – but they’re challenging to execute. I found rolling the dough a struggle but I’m no baker. Make whatever shapes you’re able though I love these in a bag with a bow as a gift. Reminds me of visiting NYC during the Westminster Dog Show.

Ingredients:
2 Cups of Rice Flour
3/4 Cup Rolled Oats
1 Large Egg – beaten
1 Cup Unsweetened Applesauce
Directions:
Preheat your oven to 350F. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.
Mix rice flour and oats in a bowl. Add applesauce. Beat egg – add one tablespoon of egg (this isn’t easy. I estimated). Mix all ingredients until mixture is moistened.
Add a bit of water if it’s too dry, or a bit more flour if too wet.
Then roll out the dough. This is the challenging part.
I made a small ball about palm sized, wet my hand a little and lightly floured the rolling surface.
Roll the ball into a long string, a bit fatter than a pencil and about six to eight inches long
If you can do it, make a U-shaped and twist the string twice then bend back to the start to form a traditional pretzel shape.
Bake for about 20 minutes.
I couldn’t do it and cheated by shaping the rolled out dough string into a peace-sign and placed it on the cookie sheet lined with parchment. My pretzels were big, so I got six out of this recipe and two extra ‘straight’ pretzels. I don’t think you dog sill mind of all the pieces are straight.
However, if you’re going to bundle them into gift bags for pup friends, pretzel shaped are kind of cute.
