Caledonia, ON: Doggin’ it at K9 Fun Zone Dawg Dayz of Summer Event

Dog Dock Diving at K9 Fun Zone Dawg Dayz of Summer event 2017Traveling with the dog is great, but occasionally something cool crops up in your own backyard – let’s call it a doggie stay-cation. Get it? The dog stays.

Or not.

Anyway, minutes from our home we discovered something new: K9 Fun Zone in Caledonia, Ontario. It’s a dog activity centre set up on a private rural property. Dock diving clubs such as the Canadian Lab Squad practice in the huge dock and pool in the front yard. Barn hunt competitions and agility courses set up here too.

The place is available for private rentals and usage or – as was the case last weekend – fundraisers.

Dawg Dayz of Summer, a rescue fundraiser, opened K9 Fun Zone to the public on June 24, 2017.

The deck diving pool was open for dogs (and their people) to try – many for the first time. Also, there were a few local vendors, a raffle fundraiser, small lure course and barbeque open by noon.

Rescue organizations included Therapeutic Paws of Canada; Blood Hounds Rescue; Boston Terrier Rescue; Greyhound Rescue; Purrfect Companions of Norfolk cat rescue and Zachary’s Paws for Healing, a volunteer organization who brings pets to their people experiencing long hospital care or in palliative care units.

If you pre-registered, you could take the Canine Good Neighbour Test offered by the Canadian Kennel Club just to certify your dog’s skills and good behavior. My terrier mix Victor didn’t try. He has other qualities…

Victor did however get to meet the Paws Patrol mascot, but refused to jump in the water – even the kiddie pool.

What other dog fun happens at K9 Fun Zone?

The Dock Dog Double Header Wild Card Event dog league dock diving competition is open to the public to watch July 7 to 9, 2017 and Zachary’s Paws will host its own fundraising event August 12, 2017, 10 am to 5 pm.

Otherwise, K9 Fun Zone is available to rent starting at a half hour to a full day. The ball pit and off-leash zone is available for $10 per half hour. The facility also offers beginner and intermediate dock diving and barn hunt four and five week courses.

  3. Victor didn’t try. He has other qualities… So funny! Sounds like a great place to visit. I’d love to have one of those around here. It would be pawfect for a Bark For Life event (American Cancer Society fundraiser).

    1. I’m going back on a day with less going on to try both the ball pit and barn hunt with Victor … We’ll see what he does.
